Land Surface Temperature Retrieval from LANDSAT data using Emissivity Estimation
نویسنده
چکیده
Land surface temperature (LST) is an essential factor in many areas like global climate change studies, urban land use/land cover, geo-/biophysical and also a key input for climate models. LANDSAT 8, the latest satellite from LANDSAT series, has given lot of possibilities to study the land processes using remote sensing. In this study an attempt has been made to estimate LST over Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh, India, using LANDSAT 8 – Operational Line Imager & Thermal Infrared Sensor (OLI & TIRS) satellite data. The variability of retrieved LSTs has been investigated with respect to Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values for different land use/land cover (LU/LC) types determined from the Landsat visible and NIR channels. The Land Surface Emissivity (LSE) values needed in order to apply the method have been estimated from a procedure that uses the visible and near infrared bands. The present study focuses on developing an ERDAS IMAGINE image processing method using the LANDSAT 8 thermal imagery of band 10 data. The difference between retrieved LST and Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data indicates that the technique works by giving an error of ±3C.

Online Global Land Surface Temperature Estimation from Landsat
This study explores the estimation of land surface temperature (LST) for the globe from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 thermal infrared sensors, using different surface emissivity sources. A single channel algorithm is used for consistency among the estimated LST products, whereas the option of using emissivity from different sources provides flexibility for the algorithm’s implementation to any area of in...

In this paper, three methods to retrieve the land surface temperature (LST) from thermal infrared data supplied by band 6 of the Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor onboard the Landsat 5 satellite are compared. The first of them lies on the estimation of the land surface temperature from the radiative transfer equation using in situ radiosounding data. The others two are the mono-window algorithm devel...

The successful launch of the Landsat 8 satellite with two thermal infrared bands on February 11, 2013, for continuous Earth observation provided another opportunity for remote sensing of land surface temperature (LST). However, calibration notices issued by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) indicated that data from the Landsat 8 Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) Band 11 have large uncerta...

In this study, several methods to compute land surface temperatures (LST) from Landsat TM5 data are compared. Two different approaches are considered. An image based approach that takes into account atmospherically corrected data by using a dark object subtraction model (DOS-1) and computes the emissivity as NDVI function. The emissivity of a surface is controlled by such factors as water conte...
